Well, I have not broke records for weight loss but I have lost about five pounds since I’ve started college. I work until five and then go straight to college, where my first class starts at 6:10. So I usually have a light supper (such as a Fiber One bar or something like that) and I get a little more exercise than usual. I have to walk from class to class, and my classes are on opposite ends of the campus. So I know I have blogged about wanting to lose weight, exercise and diet pills before, but I feel good about it this time. Maybe I can lose weight without diet pills or surgery. I just try to eat a good breakfast and lunch, and then I have a very light dinner before classes. No in between meal snacking either. This is great. I’ll keep you posted.

Krista has been getting ready for college. She got her class schedule, she knows which dorm that she will be living in and she’s been talking to her roommate. The roommate has told Krista that she has a microwave and mini-fridge and asked Krista to bring a television. So either way we are going to be needing a new television. So now I’m looking at televisions. There’s so many different kinds I don’t even know where to start. Krista already has plenty of towels (they were a graduation gift) and her nanny got her a laptop (which she is already enjoying), so I guess she’s about ready. Move-in day is Aug. 19 and it will be here before I know it. I just hope I’m ready.

With graduation just over a month away, I’ve been thinking about the things that Krista will be needing for college….which she will be starting in the fall. She’s definitely going to need a laptop but there’s a lot of other things. She wanted my sister to make her a quilt for her bed, so the bedding has been taken care of. Her room will have a bed, chest of drawers and a desk but she need something for her toiletries (the showers and restrooms are down the hall), a laundry hamper (for when she brings dirty laundry home to wash), and I’m sure lots of other things that I haven’t even thought of. I had better get busy because the time for the big move will be here before I know it.

Krista may not be the only one going to college. I’m thinking about starting college this fall. I’ve talked to the admissions office at the local college and they are sending me an information packet. I’ve been doing some thinking lately and I feel that I would like to start a career. In 1991, I went there and got a certificate in Office Career Technology. Upon graduating, my advisor told me about a job and I have been on that job for almost 17 years now. And I really love my job and the family that I work for are wonderful, wonderful people…but I just feel that I would like to broaden my horizons. I’m in the process of filling out the FAFSA for financial aid. With my recent cut in pay (I work four days a week now), I would need help with the tuition and other fees. And the way Kecia talks about the price of textbooks, I would need help with them too.
I’m not quite sure what I would like to major in yet. I’m considering something in the medical field, like nursing. I sometimes get so scared that I think that I never could do something like this. But this is something that i would really like to do. I’ll do another post as soon as I decide.

Lately, I’ve been thinking and wishing that I had continued my education after high school. I did go to college years after graduating high school and earned a certificate in office career technology. So for the last sixteen years I have worked in the offices of a retail store. Now I wished that I had continued my education and maybe entered the medical field (maybe nursing) or possibly education (like a teacher), I know it’s not too late but it would be so much harder now. I could earn a degree in either fields at the local college, but there’s online schools to consider too. It would be great to continue my education by obtaining an online college major while also being at home with my family. But if I wanted to enter the nursing field, I don’t know if that would be a college major that you could do online but I could go to the local college if I decided to do that field. Of course, I will do some research and see what the onlineschools have to offer. I know that I’ve talked about business management classes but I have also been considering other options. I just think that I’m ready for a change.

This is Krista’s Senior Year and next year she will be moving away to go to college. She hasn’t decided yet where she will be attending but she has narrowed it down to 2 or 3. One thing for sure is that she will be living on campus. I’m sure when she moves, she will want to take a ton of stuff with her. So she will be needing a bunch of moving boxes for all that stuff. I’m going to try to convince her to leave a few things home. At least then she will have a reason to come home on the weekends. She will not be going so far away that she can’t come home on the weekends. That will be good.

It’s Krista’s senior year and we are getting ready to start looking at some colleges. We are going to visit a couple of colleges in November. She will be taking the SAT in November (trying to improve her previous score) and the ACT in December. There’s a really helpful website, www.collegeboard.com and it has lots of information. Krista even registered to take the SAT online at this website. She wants to become a high school math teacher someday. If anyone has any suggestions or advice, please share it with a comment or email.
Thanks!
