Fathers day will soon be here, and so I need to get with the kids and decide what we are going to do for their father. If we did what my husband likes to do best of anything in the world, we would be spending fathers day 2010 on a lake fishing. That would be something good to do. Spend the day with my husband on a lake just the four of us. Who knows what we will do…any suggestions???

Well, since I have been talking about Christmas. I have a question. What kind of Christmas tree do you put up? Live Christmas tree or artificial Christmas tree? I put up an artificial tree. I did put up a live tree one year, but that’s all it took. I mean, I was finding needles until July and I vacuumed and sweeped constantly. They just seem to dry out so fast. I like a live tree better but not the mess.

I had the best Christmas ever and I hope everyone else did too! It all started last Saturday with our first Christmas dinner with all my aunts, uncles and cousins. We all had a great time. And then on Tuesday, we had a dinner with my husband, Dewayne’s family. On Christmas Eve, we went to my sister’s for my family dinner. So we’ve had lots of dinners and I ate too much at every one of them. But I really enjoy spending time with all of the family. And I don’t return to work until January 5th. YAY!! Tomorrow is Krista’s 18th birthday!!
So, Happy Birthday to Krista!!

This past weekend, Krista and I did some more shopping (the guys went hunting) and finally finished decorating our Christmas tree. Friday, I got some really great deals online at Old Navy (I had to place the order by midnight Friday to get twenty percent off and free shipping) plus we did some shopping in town. I got Krista a new pocketbook and wallet for Christmas. And I also got her the new Nicholas Sparks book “The Lucky One.” On Saturday, we took my little nephew to have breakfast with Santa and then we came home and finished decorating the tree.

I want to wish everyone a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!! Whether you are staying home, traveling across town or across the country, I hope that you all are safe and be careful. I’ll be traveling to my Aunt Jean’s house for Thanksgiving, so my family and I will be traveling about 30 miles. Not too bad.
Before I head off to bed, I wanted to stop a few minutes and think of all the things that I am thankful for. First, I am thankful for my family. I am blessed with a great husband, three healthy children and a great son-in-law. I also have a great extended family. And with the way the economy is and the unemployment rate being so high, I am thankful that I have a job (I personally know a lot of people that have been laid off and are out of work right now). I am thankful that I have a loving church family that I can turn to in a time of need. I am thankful for my health, which is good now (but I need to start taking better care of it). And last but not least, I thankful to have a blogging “family.” I have truly enjoyed all your blogs….I’ve got some new recipes, great tips and well, it’s just been fun. Thanks for stopping by and reading what I have to say. Enough rambling…it’s time for bed now.
Be Safe and I hope you all have the best Thanksgiving ever!!

With the way that the economy is, it’s hard to think about Christmas shopping. But I have been making my list and I’ve made some cuts. I don’t do a lot of sewing but I have found this free pattern for a little girl’s skirt at www.oliverands.com. And I think I’m going to try and make it for the little girls on my Christmas list. It’s a very simple skirt so I shouldn’t have any problems and I think the little girls will really like them (all these girls like wearing dresses and skirts). Plus I think getting a homemade gift will be more special.
I also make calendars for my daughter, my sister, my mama and my nephews (there’s two of them). I use the pictures that I take all year long to create the calendars and nobody knows what pictures that I’ll be using. I used to make them from scratch by using scrapbook materials but now I usually upload my pictures to Kodak Gallery and then order them there. It’s much easier this way. My family would really miss my calendars if I quit making them.
Does anybody have special gifts that you all make (year after year) for the loved ones on your Christmas lists??

I’m thinking I don’t know what to get my daughter and son-in-law for Christmas. I usually get them a few little gifts separately and one gift for them together. So I have been looking for them something together and I saw this HDMI switch that I think would be great. The switch sends high definition video and audio signals to your HD television. And it can send signals from three different sources (like satellite, DVD and gaming systems) so that sounds like something that might make their television viewing a little more easier. I just hope it works with the Wii. I don’t know a lot about technical gadgets, so I had better ask them before I buy. But it sounds like a good thing.

I know my kids are a little old to go trick or treating but just thinking about it brings back a lot of memories. My kids have been everything from an Atlanta Braves baseball player, a dalmation puppy, a clown, Catwoman (from Batman) to a Dracula, a hunter and just about everything in between. They usually go on a hayride with an uncle through the small town that we live in and it is so much fun. I noticed this year that there is going to be a block party in town. That would be lots of fun but since Halloween falls on a Friday, we have our last football game of the season. So I guess that’s where we will be. What are your kids dressing up as?? And what will they be doing for Halloween?

For Thanksgiving, we either go to my aunt’s house or my mother-in-law’s house (we alternate from year to year). This year it’s to my mother-in-law’s house we go. They always have a large buffet of all the traditional Thanksgiving recipes, such as Roasted Turkey, Sweet Potato Casserole, Cornbread Dressing, Homemade Pecan and Pumpkin Pies. It makes my mouth water just thinking about all the food. I usually take some kind of dessert. I would like to take something different this year. If anyone has a simple recipe for a great tasting dessert (or any other dish) that they would like to share. I would be grateful. I’m just tired of the same old thing to the dinners. So any ideas??

Krista and I went to spend last night with my sister and brother-in-law. It was fun. We played with their miniature horse. It is so cute. Last night, we watched Big Brother which I had never watched but I think that I may have found another show to watch. It was really good. After that, we watched ‘The Water Horse’ and it was very good too. But it’s really not a kid’s movie. I mean, it’s cute at times and a kid might like that but it also has a pretty intense storyline. Some kids (especially younger ones) might not be able to keep up with and get bored. But I enjoyed it.
Today, we got my niece and went shopping. That’s me, Krista, my sister and my niece. We had lots of fun. There was a lot of good sales. The Disney Store had a lot of T-shirts for $5, so my sister started her Christmas shopping. We went to the Build-A-Bear and stuffed my niece’s bear. Of course, she had to buy some more clothes. I got me a giraffe print handbag and I just love it! It’s black giraffe print with red trim and I guess you could call it the hobo style. We had a great lunch out and then went to Old Navy. Where we found some shirts at a really great deal.
We went by my niece’s school and I took some pictures of her and Krista on the playground. I like to take pictures…just ask anyone who knows me.
When we got home some of my husband’s family had a cookout down at the pool and all the food was good. Of course, I ate too much. I guess this was an unofficial end to summer since next weekend my mother-in-law will probably be closing up the pool.
So all in all, today was a great day for me spent with my family….just the way I like it.
