Krista has been getting ready for college. She got her class schedule, she knows which dorm that she will be living in and she’s been talking to her roommate. The roommate has told Krista that she has a microwave and mini-fridge and asked Krista to bring a television. So either way we are going to be needing a new television. So now I’m looking at televisions. There’s so many different kinds I don’t even know where to start. Krista already has plenty of towels (they were a graduation gift) and her nanny got her a laptop (which she is already enjoying), so I guess she’s about ready. Move-in day is Aug. 19 and it will be here before I know it. I just hope I’m ready.

If you are like our household and have too many trophies, what do you do with them all?? Especially after the kids are grown and don’t want to take them to their own houses. I mean, we have baseball and soft ball trophies (from all three kids), golf trophies (from the oldest, Kecia) wrestling trophies (from the youngest, Zach), and band trophies (from the middle child, Krista). That’s a lot of trophies….so what do you do with them all?? Kecia is married and has her own house now but she doesn’t want all of her trophies from her youth and I don’t want to just throw them away. And I almost forgot, we have a ton of winning plaques, too. Dewayne (the hubby) has fishing plaques (from fishing tournaments) and Zach has started getting plaques from his FFA contests. So for now I guess I’ll put them in crates and put them in the storage building. I just don’t have enough wall space and shelf space for them all. Oh, well I’m really proud of them but there’s so many.

With graduation just over a month away, I’ve been thinking about the things that Krista will be needing for college….which she will be starting in the fall. She’s definitely going to need a laptop but there’s a lot of other things. She wanted my sister to make her a quilt for her bed, so the bedding has been taken care of. Her room will have a bed, chest of drawers and a desk but she need something for her toiletries (the showers and restrooms are down the hall), a laundry hamper (for when she brings dirty laundry home to wash), and I’m sure lots of other things that I haven’t even thought of. I had better get busy because the time for the big move will be here before I know it.

Well, Krista is all ready for the prom. We got her dress last Tuesday and it is so pretty. It’s black with sequins down the front and yesterday we got the shoes and jewelry. Got the hair and nail appointment, so she’s ready. And then, we will be getting ready for the graduation and then a senior trip. I’m thinking that a cruise would make a good trip. And some Caribbean cruises leave out of Mobile, AL and that’s not that far away. For the graduation party, I’m planning on a luau theme and we will have it at my mother-in-law’s pool. So that should be fun. All these dates will be here soon enough.

Monday was my off day and I had a great time. Krista, Breanna (my great niece) and I spent the day together. We went to the park but it was too cold and windy so we didn’t stay long. So then we headed to Walmart where we bought some stuff that we needed and some stuff that we didn’t need. My niece got her some toys (which she didn’t need) that were on the clearance aisle. And we got Duke (our little dog) some shavings for his dog house and we also got him some treats. After that we went to Petland to look at the puppies (and play with a few) and then next door to Cici’s Pizza. Breanna has a severe peanut allergy and Cici’s is one place that she can eat. Afterward we met Breanna’s nana (not my sister) to drop her off with her nana. But we had a really great time. I always enjoy spending time with her!!
The rest of the week I just worked. On Wednesday night, we had our first meeting for this year’s Vacation Bible School at church. We decided on the dates, the theme and what days we will be having VBS. This year, we will be Cruising the Amazing Amazon. It should be fun.
And now I am ready for the weekend.

Zach will be turning 15 next month and our car insurance won’t go up yet. But next year, I’ll be checking on auto insurance rates and be looking for the best rate for a good insurance. So far, my girls insurance rates haven’t been too bad, but I’ve heard insurance for boys is a lot higher. But I can always compare auto insurance online to make sure that I’m getting the best rate. Of course, I don’t have any idea what kind of auto insurance coverage that we will be getting for Zach yet.
Wow, just talking about insurance coverage for Zach sounds so strange. He shouldn’t be old enough to drive. And he’s already said that he doesn’t want to drive with me in the car. But that’s just as well, I’m not sure if I’m ready to ride in the car that he’s driving. I guess that will be his daddy’s job.
But seriously, it doesn’t seem like I should be thinking about Zach driving. He’s my youngest and it just doesn’t seem like he should be old enough. He’s getting his learner’s permit and Krista is graduating high school and going to college. My kids are just growing up. Where has the time gone???

Well, we have been having a lot of rain lately and it’s been raining again today. But at least we haven’t been having a lot of snow and cold weather like some cities in the country. I have been reading that some cities were expected to have about seven to eight inches of snow dropped on them today. Now, Krista would just love that (she’s always wanting it to snow) but for the rest of us around here in Georgia, we would have a hard time getting around. For instance, I don’t think having snow tires and tire chains would help me. I’m always nervous when there is just a little ice on the roads and sometimes I don’t go to work then. Krista doesn’t remember the big blizzard of 1993, but I sure do. And I’m not ready for a repeat performance. I guess it is good that I live in the south where I don’t have to worry about such things. I hope everyone stays warm and snow-free.

With the holidays over and on my way to recovery from a severe sinus infection, I am back to my blogging. And I have some GREAT news!! I am going to be a Nana for the very first time and I am sooo excited!! My daughter, Kecia (from iamkecia.com) and her husband, James are expecting their first child at the end of August. We have known that she was expecting for a few weeks now but she didn’t want announcements on our blogs or myspaces until after her first prenatal visit and that was yesterday. They did an ultrasound and everything looks great. I am really excited!! I have waited so long now to be called ‘Nana’ and now looks like the time is near. Have I already said that I am so excited. Krista is wanting it to be a little girl. Kecia and James are kinda wanting a boy (but really don’t care as long as it is healthy). And to me, well, I’m so happy to finally be a nana that I don’t really care what it is. Uncle Zach (being the typical teenaged boy that he is) is acting like he could care less….but I know better. And Grandpa Dewayne….well, he just keeps saying “Poor James.” (He joking, of course.) I’m sure that he and Zach are excited too but just show it differently than me and Krista.
Looks like 2009 is going to be a very busy year for my family. Krista (my middle daughter) will be graduating from high school in May, going to college in August and then there will be a new addition to the family at the end of August. I can’t wait!!
I will be keeping you all updated!
Signed by Nana (aka Donna)

It’s time for an eye exam for me and my daughter, Krista. Since we both wear contacts, I’ve been been looking for some inexpensive backup eyeglasses. I found the popular online eyeglasses shop, Zenni Optical. They have the cutest and stylish frames and with their $8 Complete Rx Eyeglasses you could get several pairs for backups. Krista is always wanting to have a few different pairs so that she can change with different outfits and at this price she can. And with the collection of Holiday Glass Frames From Zenni Optical, both me and Krista could have a few pairs to go with our holiday outfits. My favorite pair for me is the Metal Alloy / Stainless Steel half rim frames and they are only $8.00.

My favorite for Krista would be the Plastic Fashion Full Rim Frame in Green and they are only $9.95. They would look so cute on Krista.

With these prices, I can’t go wrong and I can definitely afford a few pairs for each of us!
